In recent memory I have been quoted as saying that our time traveling was the happiest time of my life. That being said…we are back on the road. I’m sure the previous sentence brings some questions. Why? When? How did you do it? Where are you now? I’m going to answer some of those questions today. Some of them I’m going to save for following posts (yes…there are going to be following posts).
Let’s start with where. Where are we now? We’re in Saranac Lake, NY. Saranac Lake is a very pretty mountain town in the Adirondack Mountains. We have a historic Main Street, abundant hiking trails, colleges, restaurants, and plenty to do for a small town of 5,500 people.
Next…let’s go with how. Earlier this year Chrysa and I packed up our apartment in Salt Lake City and hit the road going east. Our route took us about 2,500 miles. Along the way we learned how to convoy with 2 cats. We learned that not all hotels are created equal. We got our South Dakota drivers licenses at a 5 star rated DMV. We ran through small towns in Ohio. We ate good wings in a bad hotel in Buffalo. We stayed with family and realized how much we missed them. In short…we made it happen.
Let’s go with a little different question. How do you feel? 2020 and early 2021 felt unsettled. We were living through the pandemic in Utah, disconnected from family. Our aunt Debbie was in Vegas, and seeing her was an absolute delight, but the bulk of both our families was on the east coast. We felt a longing to be close to the people closest in our lives. Now, we feel connected again. We stayed with Chrysa’s parents, we had a visit from my mother, and we are planning a Thanksgiving getaway. How do we feel? Connected. Grounded. Involved.
We have a lot to do in 2021. We have a lot to accomplish in 2021. We have a lot to weigh emotionally, professionally, and philosophically. We will eventually make our way out west again. We’ve found that we naturally fit in out there. But, for the time being, we are going to enjoy our time out east. We’re going to roll our eyes at the bonkers accents. We’re going to savor eating real bread again. We’re going to breathe the thick, oxygen rich air. We’re going to work weird jobs (I’m working at a Mexican restaurant for crying out loud), eat great food, camp, run, hike, involve ourselves, build our van. For the first time in a long time, we’re going to take our time.
How do we feel? We feel good! We’ve discovered that life is something that you take in little bites. Today we take a bite of the big apple. Tomorrow we may nibble from the west coast. Either way we’re going to have our cake and eat it too. In short we are excited for the future. We have a plan…a loose plan…an outline…ish. It’s gonna work. Along the way there will be challenges and obstacles but we’ll make the most of them. We feel excited and we look forward to bringing our upcoming adventures to you. That being said…
Love ya’ll…tons of pics coming your way!
