This weekend ended up being full of adventure. Chrysa got home at her regular time on Friday and I had dinner waiting for her. After we ate, we decided to go out and grab a drink. We ended up at Nine Irish Brothers in Lafayette. We were in luck, there was a band playing that night, exactly what Chrysa and I were in the mood for.
We ordered a cheese platter and a couple beers. The cheese platter had some pretty interesting stuff on it. I have no idea what the different cheeses were, but they were all delicious. The beers were local and really hit the spot. We are really going to try and go local whenever possible while we are doing the traveling thing. So far our efforts have been rewarded.
Since this was an Irish restaurant the band played Celtic music. Having been to Ireland, we were familiar with Irish music, but these guys played mostly Scottish stuff. There is a little difference in style. The band was Highland Reign and they had a nice upbeat rock and roll sound. We are now fans. We are even considering going on their Scotland trip in 2016.
We got up earlyish on Saturday. We really wanted to explore the farmers market in downtown Lafayette. We are used to the farmers market in Raleigh, which is huge, and open daily. The Lafayette farmers market is small by comparison. It’s just one section of one street. However, they pack a lot in that small amount of space.
We were both hungry so the first order of business was to get some food in us. Chrysa opted for a handmade soft pretzel. Not really breakfast food, but, why not. I went with the blueberry scone. It was fantastic.
Since we were downtown anyway we took the opportunity to walk around a little. Lafayette is a very pedestrian friendly city. It’s very easy to walk around and soak in your surroundings. It’s also full of great classic American architecture.
Saturday was also Mosey Down Main Street in Lafayette. The street was full of people checking out the food stalls and the local vendors. Chrysa and I were hungry so we got some great barbeque sandwiches and a Lafayette Brewing Company beer and did some people watching. It was a very diverse crowd.
After the mosey we stopped into the Red Seven Bar. Chrysa has developed a taste for bourbon and she was in the mood for a cocktail and desert. Who am I to argue!
Bourbon and dessert turned into an evening of drinks in the breezeway of our apartment building with the neighbors. We stayed up to the wee hours of the morning shooting the breeze. Needless to say, I woke up with a hangover.
The bourbon fueled headache didn’t stop me from making a nice dinner on Sunday. I put our bountiful harvest from the farmers market to good use. I cooked a great meal of pan roasted London broil and a farm fresh salad. I even made a balsamic reduction for the beef. I have to say, it turned out really good.
With any luck all of our weekends with be as fun as this one…minus the hangover!
