The West Lafayette Public Library May 31st 2014
Just to start off, I never made it to that library. So today my plan was to go to the library and use their Wi-Fi to pay my bills. Then I was going to go to the Laundromat and do laundry. So I packed up my computer and my dirty clothes and loaded up the car. Armed with my welcome station map I started off for the library. I drove past the Lafayette Farmer’s Market and made a mental note to go there next Saturday. I followed the road that leads into Purdue campus and kept an eye out for the library. I passed the road that I thought it was on and many one way streets later I ended back up on Grant Street, where I thought the library would be on my right. No such luck. Never found the West Lafayette Public Library.
I did find, after driving out on some odd country roads, the Tippecanoe Public Library. So I went in and got my first library card in YEARS and used their Wi-Fi to pay my bills. By then it was late afternoon and even though my dirty clothes were in the front seat I had no desire to go to the Laundromat. So instead I went to Lafayette Brewing Company for the second time in six days. It is a great place. I detoured into a cool art gallery on my way to the brewery where the nice guy working there told me about all the fun festivals coming up in downtown Lafayette. Looks like we have a lot to do this summer!
I sat at the bar and had a nice amber beer and a burger. I started off talking to the bartender and another customer that actually was on her way to work at the People’s Brewery on 9th street. That is on the list of places to go to, it is like Fullsteam Brewery in Durham, NC, no food but you can bring your own. She was cool and thought this adventure sounds awesome. I agree. While I was there two guys sat to my left and proceeded to talk about everything from old Tom and Jerry cartoons, to politics, to solar sidewalks and what a great idea they are. Then to my right, this older man with long gray hair, a nice gray beard and a leather motorcycle vest appeared to be studying some hard core advanced math. Where was I??!! Was my thought, I mean this is some nice little local bar with good beer and food. It turns out the older gentleman had a great Irish accent and was a Purdue professor and my bartender was studying to be a nurse. It is amazing the people you meet and the stories you learn when you stop to talk to a stranger.
